Medium Voltage Flying Capacitor DC–DC Converter With High-Frequency TCM-Q2L Control

This article presents a novel control method for multilevel dc–dc flying capacitor converter applications in medium voltage range. Quasi-two-level modulation provides the possibility to obtain low capacitance even below 1 μF, whereas triangular current mode controller part enables achieve zero switching at turn- on wide operating range, lowering power losses, and providing operate higher frequencies. The proposed converges advantages of these both methods leading very high efficiency with density. Performance is illustrated model-based Saber simulation first, then, an experimental model frequency range (40 ÷ 250 kHz) was designed constructed. A series laboratory tests up 1.5 kV dc 10 kW confirmed noteworthy characteristics converter. between devices balanced achieved reached as 99.1%. Therefore, can be competitively employed against classical two-level, well three-level connection-based counterparts.
